Did you know that Monday 19th August is the UK’s National Moving Day! Apparently, this is the most popular day for moving home!
But what makes a property a home?
Moving into a new property is an exciting milestone but turning that house into a home can feel overwhelming. I would bet my life that most of you will have boxes somewhere in your house that haven’t been opened since the day you moved in. Am I right?!?
As part of a series of moving blog posts for the APDO (The Association for Professional Declutterers and Organisers) website, I was delighted to share practical advice on how you can make your new space truly feel like yours.
In previous posts I covered the practicalities of preparing for a move and how to rock move day. You can find both of these posts here:
1. Mastering the art of a stress free move: The Preperations
2. Mastering the art of a stress free move: Moving Day
The third and final instalment in this series focuses on how you can make your new property feel like home.
From decluttering to personalised decor, you will find tips to help you settle in and create a cozy, inviting environment. Whether you’re just unpacking or looking to refresh your living space, this guidance will make the process smoother and more enjoyable.

My best advice to you, however, now that you have moved in, is to first take a breath! Let’s not forget moving can be stressful and overwhelming, so now you are in just take a beat to recharge your battery before you get stuck in. This beat may just be ordering a take-away on the first night and getting a good sleep but that time is so important.
Don’t forget though that you are not alone. There are Professional Organisers worldwide, like me here at Orka Living, that are available to help you declutter further, create a plan, unpack and organise your belongings in a way that functions for you. Here’s to never having unopened boxes in your loft or garage again!
