Well hello there! Thanks for stopping by to my blog! Let me introduce myself. I’m Julia, mum to three and at the start of what is a very exciting new chapter in my life as a Professional Declutterer and Organiser.
For as long as I can remember I have been known as ‘The Organised One’. Even as a teenager, my parents would task me with organising their bookshelves or offices. This was something I always took great care and pride in doing.
Unsurprisingly to me, when I recently retook a personality test for the first time in years, it labelled me as an Advocate. In other words, I strive to make an impact and take clear steps to achieve my goals. Furthermore, I use my strengths to uplift others, showing compassion and a strong desire for helping others. Even as a little girl, I always wanted to help others. However, after completing a degree in Psychology with Film & Television Studies, I choose to enter the world of programme making.
Glamourous right?
Well, not as glamourous as people may think! My hope was that if the subject matter helped to further educate one person, then that was a success in my book. Most importantly, I wanted to work on programmes that made a difference to peoples’ lives and that touched the audience. As I progressed in my career and worked with some amazing teams producing award winning content.
In 2013, personal circumstances forced our family to really take a long hard look at life. As a result, we packed up home and moved to a quiet place in the country. I left my job to focus on raising my family, which I have been doing for the last seven years. Now the time has come for me to dip my toe back into the world of work and get those brain cells firing again.
What would the future hold?
Above all, I was adamant that the career I would go back into would be one that filled me with joy! I wanted to look forward to going to work and I wanted to be able to work around my family with minimal amounts of stress. What could I do? Well, anyone that knows me will guess that I first made a list! I brainstormed with family and friends, and I found the things that I was passionate about. When I mixed them all up in the bowl, it was clear as day and Orka Living was born.
So here I am, embarking as a Professional Organiser and I am so excited for what I can do for you!
The name Orka is Swedish for having the mental and physical energy to be bothered to do something. I hope that by working with me this is what Orka Living can bring to you.
With the right guidance and support I aim to help you simplify your life and your spaces, rebuilding them in a way that allows you to do more of what you love. Together we can banish the dread and the feelings of being overwhelmed when you walk through your front door and create an environment that you look forward to being in.
If the current global pandemic has taught us anything, it is that we need to stop and smell the roses, we need to focus on the things and the people that are important to us. Tomorrow is no guarantee so Orka Living will help you live for today!
So now you know who I am, let me tell you a little bit about what Orka Living can do for you.
What is a Professional Organiser?
This is a question I often get asked and people don’t seem to be sure where a Professional Organiser might use their skills. Well, let me fill you in.
Do you feel bogged down by life?
Do you hunt for hours trying to find that one piece of paperwork?
Do you worry about what you might be leaving behind for your loved ones to have to sort through?
Do you spend a fortune on arts and crafts because you can’t actually find the item that you want to use in the depth of the art box?
Are you afraid to look in the deep dark corners of your kitchen cupboards?
Are you dreading moving house?
If any of these questions resonate with you then I can help you!

The majority of the population is living a life where there are not enough hours in the day to do all of the things they really need or want to do. Many coast along just fine, not with the perfect balance but with enough of a balance that it is manageable.
On the other hand, there are many, like me in a previous life, that are overwhelmed by the to do list. Most of us probably feel like we can’t manage it all and so things start to give. Realistically, we can’t give up on our jobs because we rely on these to put food on the table. Similarly, we can’t give up on our families because they are dependent on us, so what’s left to give up on? Usually our hobbies, social time, and our physical spaces. In short, these are the things that we will get round to getting organised and enjoying when we have the time. But that time never seems to come right?
How can a Professional Organiser help you?
A Professional Organiser has a wide skillset that may change depending on the client and their needs. For example, it might be that you just have no systems in your house to keep you on track or you just have too much ‘stuff’ to realistically manage. There is no point in having millions of things if you cannot use or enjoy them.
As an organiser I will work with you to declutter items that no longer serve a purpose in your life. I will help you to organise what you do need in your space in a way that is functional for you and your family. Sounds great right?
Making these changes in our lives is often something that we just don’t have the time to do on our own, or we just don’t even know where to begin. In these situations, an organiser can set you up, guide and support you through the process, as well as physically being an extra pair of hands to get through the load at a faster pace, helping you to achieve your end goal.
What areas do Professional Organisers cover?
Different Professional Organisers may focus on different skill sets or life events that you need support with. These may include:
At your first Orka Living consultation we will discuss your situation and needs and will design just the right package for you. After all, our client’s success is at the heart of everything we do.
How does it work?
Each package will differ depending on the needs of the client. If you think that a Professional Organiser might just be what you need to help you take back control of your life, then follow these easy steps:
1. Get in touch and book your Free Consultation.
2. Together we will break down your needs and agree on what help your need.
3. We will set clear goals and decide on a realistic time frame.
4. We will agree a mutually suitable time for your sessions.
5. During our sessions we will work at a pace where you feel comfortable.
6. We will support and guide you through the process as you achieve your goals.
7. Finally, we will leave you with the relevant guidance to be able to maintain your newly simplified life.
